Li Yun Alvarado is a Puerto Rican poet, writer, and educator. Her work has been published in several journals including CURA: A Literary Magazine of Art and Action, MiPOesias, The Acentos Review, PALABRA, A Magazine of Chicano and Latino Literary Art, and Modern Haiku. She has been selected to participate in the VONA Writers Workshop in San Francisco, the Acentos Fellowship in New York City, and Astra Writing in Greece.

In 2012, her poetry manuscript was selected by Rigoberto González as an honorable mention for The Andrés Montoya Poetry Prize. In 2009, she received an Academy of American Poetry University Prize.

Li Yun is currently a doctoral candidate in English at Fordham University where she also earned her master's degree in English with a writing concentration. In 2013, she was awarded an AAUW American Fellowship to support her dissertation research. As a graduate student, Li Yun has helped coordinate Fordham's Poets Out Loud reading series. She also holds a bachelor's degree from Yale University where she double majored in Spanish and sociology.

She has had the pleasure of teaching literature, composition, and creative writing in English and in Spanish to middle school, high school, and college students in New Haven, Boston, New York City, and the Dominican Republic.

She is a native New Yorker living in Long Beach, California, who takes frequent trips to Salinas, Puerto Rico to visit la familia.
