Hola Familia,

October is here! Happy Birthday to me!

I don’t know about you, but for me September was emotionally draining.

Between the one year anniversary of Hurricane María and the current status of our country’s Supreme Court Nomination, I’m tired. So tired.

That said, I am grateful for some especially lovely moments this past month. Celebrating our munchkin’s second birthday makes the top of that list.

September Round Up

I also loved sharing my work with you and others using a new medium — Facebook Live! In case you missed it, you can watch both readings here. It was so fun and easy to host these readings that I think I’ll try to do them more often. Stay tuned...

I also wrote a blog post reflecting upon and celebrating what I'm calling my “Publication Summer” — the most productive writing-related summer I’ve ever had.

In that post I pull back the curtain on how important cultivating community and building relationships has been for my writing life.

October On My Mind

After an outward facing summer, I’m looking forward to slowing down and looking inward. As I ease into our birthday month (the husband and I share not just a birthday month but an actual birth date - weird, I know), I’m planning to make time to reflect on this last year and to make plans for the year ahead.

I also know what I’m gifting myself this month (besides that Mother’s Day massage I still haven’t cashed in): 

A Website Update!

I know, I know, that doesn’t sound like much of a “gift,” but I love these kinds of projects that involve reflecting, planning, organizing, writing, revising, and hitting “publish.”

I have so many ideas about how I want to clean up the site and also clarify its purpose. By extension, I hope to use the site to share my own sense of mission: the ways I hope to help impact the world through my work, my teaching, and my advocacy.

As you can probably tell, I’m super excited about this project. To make sure I can give it my full focus, I'm taking a step back from weekly blogging until it's done. But don't worry, I'll still be in your inbox next month with updates on this and other projects.
