From Challenge to Pause in 2020

Earlier this year, I had the idea of offering a free "Poetry Challenge" for National Poetry Month in April.

At the time, the familiar language of "challenge" felt exciting and full of possibility to me.

Now? Who needs another challenge? Not me, that's for sure!

Still, for many of us, it's a good time to PAUSE.

The perfect time for POETRY.

With that reframe in mind, I'd like to invite you to sign up for Pause with Poetry.

If you sign up now, each day in April you'll receive an email that includes a link to a poem for reading and four prompts to inspire your writing -- if you're so moved to write during this time.

No challenge. No pressure.

Just daily reminders to take a PAUSE.

To read or write a POEM.

If you sign up now, you'll get the first of 30 emails as soon as you confirm your subscription:
Each email includes:

  • A Poem Spotlight: a link to a poem to inspire you. My spotlights focus on poetry written by poets who come from traditionally underrepresented communities and features many poems from members of my online community.

  • Daily Prompts: several prompts each day to help inspire your writing.

Need a late start? If you didn't get a chance to sign up by 3/31/20, no worries! Sign up now and you'll get the first of 30 daily challenge emails in your inbox right away:

I wrote a poem today! A villanelle, in fact. Would love to share part of it, if I may. Please let me know how/where. Thank you!

Oh how exciting! Feel free to share here in the comments if you'd like or feel free to share your favorite line(s) with me on social media. Congrats again on getting some writing done!

(PS FYI If you post your whole villanelle anywhere online, it's technically "published," so if you're thinking of submitting it for publication, you might only want to share a small portion online).
