2019 Publication Updates: 3 Poems in Raising Mothers.
Last week my first publications of the year went live over at Raising Mothers, “an online literary journal for mothers of color that exists at the intersection of art, scholarship, and community.”
I’m honored to have my work featured in such an important journal and am especially excited about having these three poems published there. Read on to learn more about how these three came to be...
I wrote first drafts of all three of these as part of the “Low Stakes Daily Writing Practice” that I kept up while I was pregnant and that I shifted into a “Low Stakes Whenever-I-Can Writing Practice” shortly after I gave birth.
Keeping up a regular writing practice helped me stay in touch with my Writer Self even as my life was turned upside down by becoming a Mami for the first time.
While I took a break from daily writing postpartum, I always had a notebook nearby for note taking or drafting when the urge arose.
Much later, I returned to these musings in order to revise revise revise them into something worth sharing.
Those notebooks are a deep well to which I will return over and over (I’m pretty sure there may be the seeds of a chapbook or full collection in there).
In the meantime, here are the first three publications from that time and head space for you to read and, if you are so moved, to share:
Thanks as always for the love and ongoing support!
